Kanigen®: The Name for Abrasion Resistance

Time-tested toughness with extra performance benefits
Kanigen
  • Hardness greater than electrolytic nickel, equal to hard chrome
  • High phosphorous content for excellent lubricity
  • Super persistent bonding resists separation to 60,000 PSI
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • Liquid chemical bath coats complex shapes with uniform thickness
  • Food safe; resistant to most alkalis, acids, temperature extremes

Since its first use on railroad tank cars in the 1950s, the Kanigen® name has been synonymous with protection of metal components. Its surface hardness, lubricity and exceptionally consistent application thickness make it a trusted choice to fight abrasion damage in iron, steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, nickel, aluminum, and their alloys.

Kanigen's hardness and phosphate composition combine to offer excellent lubricity. An overall hardness level for Kanigen of 49 Rockwell C can be enhanced through alternative formulations to approach Rockwell C 70, making it a cost-effective replacement for hard chrome plating.

The durability of Kanigen is further enhanced by the high consistency and extraordinarily persistent adhesion of the coating. Kanigen is known for equal deposition to all surfaces of a coated component, including complex geometries and inside diameters. Kanigen's high ductility and unusually persistent adhesion virtually eliminates flaking. It resists separation of coating from the substrate under pressures up to 30 tons. The result is a coating that stays in place in extreme conditions, delivering consistent protection against abrasion.
